Artist's Comments
The famous Byoudou-in of Uji. Very important because Uji was a summer home for characters from "The Tale of Genji" the world's first novel written by Murasaki Shikibu in the Heian Period, thus it has strong links with Genji. The building is an example of island on the water sort of architecture (?) where, if I remember correctly, it is believed that, like when the world was first created, an island in water (like the first land in the sea) attracts the gods who will hopefully land there.
